Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the “Japanese Classical Music Industry” book project page.
People probably know me through my research into Japanese war memories and contents tourism. But, in fact my interest in classical music long predates my interest in Japan or academia, as you can see in my composer website here. I am also active in the Japanese classical music industry: details of a forthcoming concert on 17 May 2025 are here. This project connects my academic interest in Japanese Studies, tourism, and heritage, and my practical experience in the music industry.
An edited volume Music as Heritage and Tourism Resource in Japan is under contract with Routledge and approaching completion. It should be published in 2026. So, The Japanese Classical Music Industry will be my second music book project.
This project is a joint venture with Dr Yumi Notohara of Osaka College of Music. We have been working together for the Music as Heritage and Tourism Resource in Japan project, and share deep common interests in Japan/the UK, classical music, and war memories. You can read Yumi’s articles about her research in the UK here.
We look forward to receiving your paper proposals!
This page will expand as the project develops. For now, here is the CFP for the symposium on 2 November 2025 as shared on mailing lists. CFP Music Symposium 20251102 Please get in touch (my mail address is at the bottom of this page) if interested.
